Update From Moose International

Membership Update

Please take note that as of August 1st, 2025, the spouse of any Moose member will be considered a qualified guest. This means that a spouse may be signed in twice and then on the third time they are expected to submit an application for membership.

The Danbury Moose has been lax on this over the years and moving forward we will be checking the guest book and advising members and guests of our policy. Please understand that this is a private organization and the money from our member's yearly dues goes to fund Mooseheart, Moosehaven and Moose Charities.

Also, it is an IRS regulation for a private organizations to follow these rules as well or we may face penalties or worse closure.

Only events that are open to the public are exempt from this rule. Keep in mind that open to the public events are during specific hours. Qualified guests and spouses arriving hours prior to or staying hours after an event are subject to being signed in and falling under the 3 -time rule.

Women to the Moose / Danbury, CT Chapter #314

Who are the Women of the Moose and Why are We Important?

The Women of the Moose, established in 1913, is a unit of Moose International. Our members work in harmony with the members of the Moose Fraternity to provide a helping hand to those in need.

Our members dedicate countless volunteer hours each year to over 1,400 Chapters across the United States and Canada as well as their communities. More importantly, the Women of the Moose is one of the largest contributors to the support and maintenance of Mooseheart Child City and School and Moosehaven Retirement care facility. On an annual basis, the Women of the Moose throughout the fraternity donate more than one million dollars to support programs and activities at these two campuses.

The Women of the Moose provides social, educational and community service opportunities to its members, as well as sporting events and activities geared toward the entire family. Our members are enthusiastic; they bring a special passion and commitment to the Moose fraternity. But don’t think the Women of the Moose are all work and no play – they also bring a unique brand of fun and energy to their meetings and functions.

Chapter meetings are the First Wednesday of each month at 7pm. Come to an orientation to learn more about the Chapter and the vital role we play to support MooseHeart and MooseHaven.

You may have heard the saying, “A burden heavy to one is borne lightly by many.” This is at the core of the Moose organization and what makes us unique in our Lodges, local communities and charitable “cities” that we support. You may have heard the saying, “A burden heavy to one is borne lightly by many.” This is at the core of the Moose organization and what makes us unique in our Lodges, local communities and charitable “cities” that we support. Our roots can be traced to 1888 and the founder of the Moose, Dr. Henry Wilson, who successfully established the first Lodge in Louisville, Kentucky. In the early years, the Moose was to serve a modest goal of offering men an opportunity to gather socially, to care for one another’s needs and celebrate life together.

1

Since those early years, our fraternal  organization rapidly expanded to include valuable service to our communities, care for children and teens in need at Mooseheart Child City & School , a 1,000-acre campus, located 40 miles west of Chicago and care for our senior members at Moosehaven, a 70-acre retirement community near Jacksonville, Florida.

2

With a membership of over 1,000,000 members, our presence is felt in over 1,500 communities across all 50 states and four Canadian provinces, plus Great Britain. The Moose organization contributes between $75 to $100 million worth of community service (counting monetary donations, volunteer hours worked and miles driven) annually.

In addition to Mooseheart and Moosehaven, the Moose Fraternity’s Heart of the Community effort is multifaceted with internally developed programs like Tommy Moose. Tommy Moose aids in helping children overcome fears and anxiety during times of stress. Donated to law enforcement, fire fighters and other emergency workers, Tommy Moose plush dolls are presented to children in various traumatic situations. The external focus of our service is directed towards many worthwhile national charities, a few of which are: Salvation Army, Safe Surfin’ USA Foundation, Big Brothers-Big Sisters, and St. Jude.

In our local Lodges, you will find a wide array of activities to participate in both as an individual and as a family. From holiday parties, dances, sports, themed dinners and live entertainment, the Moose has much to offer.  Membership can mean different things to different people. You are the one determining what you want to get out of the organization, and what you want to give back.

The Moose is about celebrating life together, serving those in need within our local community, supporting our children at Mooseheart and standing by our senior members at Moosehaven

Our staff is made up of passionate and dedicated individuals who are committed to making Moose Events a success. We work tirelessly to ensure that every aspect of the event is carefully planned and executed to perfection. Our staff is 100% volunteers. This includes, but not limited to, our board of officers, bartenders, kitchen staff and bingo staff. The Moose would not be what it is without our members support and our volunteers!

We are always looking for volunteers. Kitchen help is appreciated; clean-up crews for the exterior and interior of the lodge too.

With the recent renovations for the flooring in the Social Quarters, we are looking to continue these cosmetic changes with painting. More to come on this project.

As spring is almost here and we are getting the warmer weather, we will be looking to do an outside clean-up of the property. Volunteers are needed for this! The lodge clean-up day will be Saturday, May 10th from 9am to 12pm. Lunch will be provided.
